Today marks the one year anniversary of me being away from my full time job and starting on my own path. It feels like I’ve learned more in this past year than in much of my life combined. There have been plenty of ups and downs. I’ve had the chance to travel, learn, explore, relax, and spend time with my family. Reflecting on the past year, I’ve attempted to outline the things that I’ve learned and how they’ve impacted me. I am in no way claiming to have mastered everything, I still have a ton of work to do. However I will say with conviction that I’ve never felt better or more clear on what I want to get out of life.

1) Live Intentionally/Be Deliberate

2) Love and Appreciate Everything
It’s often the smallest things that bring me the most fulfillment. A conversation with a friend, a beautiful day, or a great book. True happiness does not come from materials. Happiness is an internal game.

3) Fell In Love With Reading Again
As a child I was an avid reader. This came to a halt as I grew up and entered middle/high school. Reading wasn’t something that screamed cool as a teen. I was much more worried about the next game or party, than I was about learning anything. The past few years I’ve fallen in love with reading and learning again. Books have changed my life and opened up many new worlds to me.

4) Power of Writing

5) Effect of Movement and Exercise On The Mind
I’ve always played sports and enjoyed working out. The difference now is I can see a clear positive effect on overall well being. Once you’re done playing organized sports, nobody is forcing you to train hard. I’ve found that intense training has a significant positive effect on clarity and overall well being.

6) Money is Overrated

7) The Obstacle is the Way
I have to give a shoutout to Ryan Holiday for coining this phrase. Essentially when we are faced with an obstacle, it’s almost always best for us to attack it head on. We are so often tempted to back down or find a way around, when in reality everything we want is just on the other side of a temporary struggle.

8) Stop Being Scared

9) There is No Single Path

10) You Can Learn Something From Everyone and Everything

11) Own Everything in Your Life

12) Nobody is Going to Give You Anything

13) Maximize Every Minute

14) Listen More/Talk Less

15) Nobody Cares What You Say You’re Going to Do

16) Give More Than You Take

17) We’re Living In An Incredible Time to Be Alive

18) Leave It All Out There

19) Let Things Go

20) The Most Secure People Don’t Have Time to Hate

21) Strong Convictions, Loosely Held

22) The One Thing
No matter what the situation, the only thing you can always control is how you react to it.

23) Power of the Mind

24) Everyone Has Their Own Path

25) Happy to be Here
